Youtube.com is a video sharing website where visitors can view video clips. The tagline for this site is “broadcast yourself”. Registered users can upload and share video clips. Youtube was created in 2005 and acquired by Google in 2006. This site regularly falls within the top 5 most visited websites in the United States,

The home page of Youtube offers featured videos, promoted videos, and most watched videos. The Youtube default is North American and English but video content from nearly two dozen other countries may be chosen in several other languages. The home page allows a visitor to choose home, videos, community or channels.

Channels are videos organized by subject such as; comedy, pets, how to & style, sports, etc. A visitor may choose the most viewed or the most subscribed video clips. Choices may be further narrowed by today, this week, this month, or all time.

Two search boxes are available on the home page for locating videos with a specific theme. Resources are available via links near the bottom of the homepage in three categories, Account, Help & Info and Youtube. These resources include the help center, community guidelines, advertising, copyright and the company blog.

The Youtube terms of service (TOS) state that the website is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. In order to legally accept the TOS agreement during the creation of an account, a user must affirm he or she is over the age of 18 or has the ability to enter into a legal contract by some means.

The community guidelines clearly state videos containing content such as pornography, violence, animal abuse, child exploitation and illegal acts are not permitted. Users are encouraged to flag videos deemed inappropriate. Flagged videos are investigated by staff members are removed if they violate the guidelines. Repeated violations of these guidelines may lead to the termination of a user account.

By uploading a video to this site a user grants non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable rights to the site.
