Wikia.com is a collaborative website providing in depth information on a variety of subjects ranging from autos to gaming to cooking, and more. The site relies on the written contributions of its members who build wikis on virtually any subject and are continuously adding information to the site. Members are also able adopt existing wikis and edit any topic they find. Editing of wikis is allowed because the site strives to provide high quality content and believes that this is achieved through collaboration with others.

Visitors to the site can search for wikis on a specific topic or they can browse by category by clicking on the ‘Content Hubs’ or ‘Biggest Wikis’ links. The biggest wikis generally have over 2500 content pages on each topic. Visitors can also access other language versions of this site by clicking the ‘Wikis by Language’ link. Detailed help and tutorial sections that include member submitted videos, can be accessed by clicking the ‘What is a wiki?’ and ‘Wikia Help’ links.

To create a topic, a visitor must first register with the site by submitting an online registration form that requests their name, email and birth date. This form can be accessed by clicking the ‘Create a Wiki’ link on the homepage and then the ‘Create an Account’ link at the top of the page. Once registered, the new member will be given the option of adopting or moving an existing topic. They will also be able to submit a new Wiki request; this requires administrative approval. Members are encouraged to search for their topic of interest before submitting a request to prevent duplicate topics. If their request is approved, a topic page will be created and the member will be required to add and edit content on a regular basis. If a topic has not had any activity in 60 days, it will be deemed inactive and will be put up for adoption by other members of the community. Members can add text, photos and videos to their topics, and should expect their topic to be edited by other members of the site.
