The site is clear and it is easy to navigate directly to whatever you are looking for (some sites are “busy” looking with prominent ads and photos to distract the visitor, rather than direct the viewer to specific information). Each country’s pages are in the national language, and the seventeen national editions include Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, and Russian. The visitor can also register to receive personalized preferences in news, sport, entertainment, etc. The death of the last link to the original Reuter family (Marguerite, Baroness de Reuter died 1/25/09) reminds us of the old traditions of news gathering – telegraph cables and carrier pigeons, in this case – and of the respect such services (established by Paul Julius Reuter in 1851 in London) garnered over the years.
