greatschools.net is organized very much like multiple websites or portals all in one. The home page has a scrolling flash player with different features such as finding the right pre-school and top school lists. There is a top-level navigation offering research links and information for parents, school choice, etc. On the right side there are quick links to compare schools nationwide and learn about specific topics such as moving with kids and homework help. Scrolling down a bit on the page you’ll find a listing of the “latest tools and advice” which appears to link in current events with the impact on your kids and schools (i.e. the peanut recall of 2009). There are links to free newsletters, a parent discussion board and banner advertisements on the rest of the page before reaching the bottom. At the bottom of the page there are lists by category with quick links to items such as Grade-By-Grade Support, Education Topics and etceteras. The site comes with the usual disclaimers and informational links for about us, etceteras. If you dive into some of the site sections such as parent community, you will find virtual tours for people who have not been to the site, Question and Answer links and finally links to create an account, which is quick with only about 10 data points to fill out.
