Flickr is a free photo and video management website where members can share their submissions with over 20 million users. The company’s offering is distinguished from competitors by the multitude of ways any user can upload photos or videos and by the tools available to edit and share photos or videos.

After signing up for a free account, users can upload from Flickr’s proprietary software via operating system plug-ins, via the website, by email, or from other third-party applications. Once uploaded, users have a variety of photo editing tools at their disposal, including cropping, rotating and red-eye removal. Once the user is done editing, the user can organize their photos or videos into albums and scrapbooks. Users also have the option of joining online forums based on common interests, as well as sharing their photos or videos with family and friends, all of whom do not require a membership to view the archived material. Additional features include mapping photos or videos to the location they were taken with an online map and creating a variety of printed pictures and material (mugs, calendars, posters, etc) that can then be purchased at Target retail stores.

One drawback to Flickr is that the service does not include unlimited photo or video uploads within a given time period. Users are limited to 100 MB of photo or video uploads per month. For around $25 per year, Pro Account holders have unlimited upload and storage capability, along with ad-free albums and viewing.
