Fanpop.com is a website based in San Francisco, California, that lets people create and join fan sites in virtually any topic.
The Homepage features the top fan sites or “Spots,” as well as the latest entertainment news, site updates, a list of recent questions posted in different spots, recent images, forum updates, and a ‘Fan Picks’ section featuring the latest polls. The homepage also features a ‘Browse Content’ section, where visitors can browse content by popular and most recent, a ‘Browse Clubs’ section, where visitors can browse clubs or spots by category, and a ‘Featured Article’ section that displays the top user submitted articles as rated by other members.
Each “spot” or fan page displays photos and videos related to the spot topic, as well as articles, questions, polls, recent forum questions, links, a fan list, and links to related spots. Anybody can view “spots” or fan pages but registration is required in order to post comments or join the spot.
Visitors can register with the site by clicking the ‘Join Now’ link and submitting a short form. Members can create o edit their profile and view their messages by clicking the ‘Profile’ link at the top of the page. Members can create a spot by clicking the ‘Create New Club’ link in the ‘Browse Clubs’ section of the homepage and submitting a form with the intended club’s name, description, category, and keywords. Once a new club is created, it is moved to the ‘Pending Clubs’ area where it will stay until it enough members join; this is done in an effort to monitor spot content and prevent spam spots.
