Epa.gov is the official website of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, an organization created in 1970 to protect and restore the environment through pollution reducing programs and regulations.
The homepage features links to environmental articles, regulations, and current projects. There is a ‘Weather Emergencies’ section that displays preparedness and recovery tips after natural disasters; a ‘Report Spills and Violations’ section that provides contact information and resources for reporting a spill or violation; and a ‘Wanted Fugitives’ section that features mug shots and information about people who have been accused or convicted of environmental crimes and have fled the country. The homepage also features environmental resources for businesses and nonprofits, as well as links to educational programs geared toward kids, multimedia presentations about health and environmental topics, and links to employment and grant opportunities.
The ‘Learn the Issues’ section displays a list of environmental issues, information on protecting the environment, and a list of popular questions. The ‘Science & Technology’ section displays the latest science news, grant and funding opportunities, and information about the EPA’s research methods and research plans. The ‘Sneak a Peek into our Science Notebook’ links directs the visitor to the latest research topics. The ‘Laws & Regulations’ section allows anyone to look up EPA regulations and provides information on regulation writing and enforcement. Visitors can browse regulations by date, topic, business sector, and state. The ‘Newsroom’ section provides the latest environmental news, multimedia, and resources, such as speeches, testimonies, public service announcements, and more. Visitors can view region specific news and media by selecting their state from the drop down menu. The ‘About EPA’ section displays a brief history of the organization; an employee directory; a budget, planning, and performance results section; and career and volunteering information.
This site is also available in several different languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and more.
