The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee race, religion, sex, origin, nation, age, disability, genetic information, and etc. The EEOC covers companies with at least 20 employees, labor unions, and employment agencies. The laws apply to all employment sectors such as hiring, firing, wages, promotions, training, and benefits. The agency takes charges when it has to investigate charges of discrimination, and to ensure that all employees are being treated fairly by the law. If the investigation does lead to a case of discrimination the agency has the right to settle the charge file a lawsuit.
