Cia.gov is the official website of the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States, an agency created in 1947 to promote national security.
The homepage features a brief overview of the agency’s mission, as well as links to the latest agency updates and featured stories. The ‘Showcase’ section provides a link to a virtual tour of the CIA headquarters in Washington, DC, as well links to the CIA Museum and an interactive timeline of the agency’s history.
The ‘About CIA’ section provides information about the agency’s history and mission statement. The ‘Careers’ section provides a list of career opportunities, as well as links to special career opportunities, student opportunities, an FAQ section, and more. The ‘Offices of CIA’ section provides information about the four main CIA departments, which include: Directorate of Intelligence, National Clandestine Service, Directorate of Science and Technology, and Directorate of Support. The ‘News & Information’ section provides links to the latest agency news and press releases, as well as links to speeches and testimony, an archive of featured stories, and a ‘CIA & The War on Terrorism’ section that displays a timeline of events, hearings, and news related to the war on terrorism.
The ‘Library’ section provides links to a variety of agency publications, such as the World Factbook and intelligence reports. The ‘Kids’ Page’ section provides informationa about the CIA for kids in grades K to 12. This section also contains information for parents and teachers, and links to online games. The ‘Contact CIA’ section provides detailed contact information, as well as a ‘Before Contacting us’ section that explains how to report information that may be of interest to the U.S government.
The ‘World Factbook’ section provides detailed information about 266 countries around the world. Information includes country history, government, geography, economy, transportation, and more. Visitors can click an area on the clickable map or they can select a country from the drop down menu. Visitors can also view regional maps, flags of the world, a gallery of World Factbook covers, several appendices, and a FAQ section.
The ‘World Leaders’ section provides an online directory of Chiefs of State and Cabinet Members of Foreign Governments. The ‘Today’s CIA’ section provides information about the agency’s mission and goals, as well as links to a online headquarters tour, the CIA Museum, a history of the agency, and an FAQ section. The ‘Studies in Intelligence’ section provides links to unclassified articles from classified studies performed since 1992. The ‘Diversity’ section provides information about the agency’s diversity initiatives, as well as links to special career opportunities, military transition, and an FAQ section.
