The University was started after Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt decided to donate the money that would eventually be used to start the school. Today Vanderbilt is known as one of the most prestigious Universities throughout the United States. Vanderbilt.edu is designed using the seasonal fall colors of the school. A large image box sits towards the right of the homepage which displays various pictures and blurbs of information. To the left of the image box sits the news section which displays news regarding the school, the students, and the school’s action within its community. Below the image box and the news box sits a third section. In the third section visitors can watch VUcast news updates. The third section also displays a list of upcoming events. Next to the events list users will find display of the local weather on campus. The remaining information the website is classified under the sections of prospective students, students, faculty and staff, parents, alumni, visitors, and neighbors, about Vanderbilt, colleges and schools, medical center, news and media, research, libraries, arts, international, jobs, technology, and athletics. The website also contains supplementary sections: MyUV, university calendar, campus map, giving, oak, and email.
