Usgwarchives.net is strangely designed in that its homepage features only a table and information running down vertically at the center of the page. The website it self is a database that’s a source for online records for free sharing and access. The website provides actual transcriptions of public domain records. The website contains formatted files on census records, marriage records, wills, and other public documents. The website was launched on June 1996 and records are still being added daily by willing volunteers. In order for users to add records to the website they have to be formatted to match the website’s guidelines. The very top of the homepage contains three links: national search engines, tombstone project, and USGenWeb archive special projects. From these links users can search for certain records, and learn about certain record projects that the website is undertaking. The homepage also features a large table with its content organized under the columns of table of contents, FTP directory, and file manager. The table of content sections contains a table of content of all fifty states which directs users to the specific records for the state. Users can find FTP documents for each state in the second section. Lastly, the third section contains the name of the person who manages the files for each state. The website also contains navigation to special projects such as immigration project, church project, Obits project, court cases, map projects, and more.
