User Instinct is a popular search engine for finding local businesses. Companies and individuals who provide services are listed by towns and cities within each state (as well as throughout Canada).

User Instinct’s primary advantage over other search engines is the ability to search for a type of service provider within the geographic limits of a particular town. Once a type of service is found – plumber, car dealership, beauty salons, doctors, etc. – listings are shown with ratings provided by actual users of the site. Based on a six-star system, search results are listed by the number or ratings provided as well as the quality of the ratings. By clicking on the link to the business, a new page appears which shows a Google map to the business as well as contact information. There is also the ability for users to write a blog about the business, or post reviews.

User Instinct receives approximately 2.4 million visitors per month, 83% of whom are Caucasian. Most visitors (60%) have incomes of $60,000 and above, and more than two-thirds have no children. November, 2008 saw a surge in visitors with almost 2.7 million per month.
