Neopets.com is a children’s website launched in 1999 and dedicated to Neopets, or animated online pets.

Visitors must register with the site in order to create a Neopet. Visitors can register by clicking the ‘My Account’ link or ‘Login’ link at the top of the page and choosing the ‘Sign up Now’ link.

Members can create a Neopet by clicking the ‘Create a Neopet’ link in the ‘My Account’ section and selecting their pet’s appearance, name, and character traits. Once created, members will be directed to their ‘My Account’ page, where they can view the Neopets they have created, as well as gifts they have received and links to popular areas of the site. It is worth mentioning that Neopets world is called ‘Neopia’ and that members must play games in order to win ‘Neopoints,’ which are used to purchase virtual items for their Neopets.

The Homepage displays links to games, recent winners, new items available for purchase, and a ‘Notable Neohome’ section that displays a featured home along with a link to a virtual tour of the home. The ‘My Account’ section displays links to the control panel, where members can edit their profile and account settings, as well as links to inventory, Neohomes, Neomail, Neofriends, and a ‘Redeem Code’ section where members can redeem a virtual prize code.

The ‘Pet Central’ tab provides links to the Neopian calendar, which sorts virtual holidays by month; the ‘World Events’ section, which displays a list of random events that affect Neopia, such as natural disasters and giveaways; and the ‘Neopia Pound’ section where members can adopt, transfer, and abandon their pets. The ‘Pet Central’ section displays downloadable screen savers, backgrounds, and other graphics, as well as Neopian literature, pet stats, contests and activities, how-to guides, and other pet information.

The ‘Explore’ section provides a map of Neopia, along with a detailed explanation of each land. This section also provides links to a daily weather forecast, a pronunciation guide, and the Neopedia, a collection of stories, poems, articles, and diaries about Neopia. Visitors can also view a site tutorial by clicking the ‘Tutorial’ link in the ‘Explore’ tab.

The ‘Games’ section displays a list of games sorted by category and a ‘Recently Played’ section that lets members keep track of all recently played games. The ‘Games’ tab displays links to top rated games, high scores, favorite games, and a game called Key Quest.

The ‘Boards’ section displays all the forum topics, as well as forum rules, preferences, and a ‘Wall of Shame’ that displays the latest spam and scams posted in the forums.

The ‘Shops’ section displays a map with links to different shops in Neopia, as well as links to the Neopian Bazaar and the Neopian Plaza. Members can purchase items for their pets in these shops. The ‘Shops’ tab displays links to pet auctions, the trading post, the bank, and the ‘Merchandise’ section. The ‘Merchandise’ section displays links to real Neopet related products, such as plush toys and electronic games. The ‘Where to find it’ link displays the stores where the item of interest is located. The ‘Catalogue’ section displays product categories. The ‘My Stuff’ section displays items purchased by the member. The ‘Zazzle’ section displays a link to zazzle.com/neopets, a site that lets visitors purchase apparel and accessories that feature Neopet designs.

The ‘News’ section displays links to the latest issue of the Neopian Times, Neopia’s local newspaper. This section also provides information about new features and contests.

The ‘Video’ section displays Neopet related videos and user submitted videos. The ‘NC Mall’ section displays a list of new items, popular items, and favorite items that can be purchased using Neopoints. Members can also purchase virtual NeoCash via Paypal for purchasing items in the NC Mall.
