navy.mil is the official website of the United States Navy. The first thing that you notice when launching this website is the streaming pictures of officers and navy ships in various settings under the “images of the day” section. The site offers an RSS feed or direct display of “top news stories” under the images of the day section on the home page. On the right hand side of the page there are links to other relevant information about the Navy, such as the new Maritime Strategy presented in October of 2007. The site is fairly simple with a less obvious top navigation, as the links are in smaller print under the main banner. Clicking the links does not open another page; rather it expands the section and displays other links you can navigate to such as “FAQ” and other media resources. The site has a “site map” concept but it is called “Information index” that is organized alphabetically for the content on the site. The site has a “Contact Us” section that is a free form text web form, requiring you to enter a code before submitting your question. Finally, in addition to the Contact Us section there is an index, about us, careers and home page link at the top right corner of the site.
