Clubpenguin.com is a children’s site operated by the Walt Disney Internet Group. This site is available in English, French, or Portuguese. Participation in the site is limited without registration. Access to the site’s full features requires a paid subscription which can be purchased on line, or by membership card purchased at participating retailers. Some features are available with a free account.

The parents section gives information to parents on parent tools to manage a child’s account including viewing an account history and changing passwords. Parents can also set time limits for children on this site with a parental account. Other information available is on player safety and privacy protection on the site.

This site is accredited by the Better Business Bureau online and in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. A portion of membership fees from Club Penguin is donated to the New Horizon Foundation for projects around the world helping children in poverty.

Kids win virtual coins during game play which can be spent on furniture for their ‘igloo’ or attire for a penguin created by the child. The site has a chat feature in two available modes; ultimate safe and safe. In Ultimate Safe mode chatters are restricted to a predefined set of statements, questions and greetings.

Chatters in safe mode can only see other chatters in the same mode. The Safe Mode allows users to type their own messages. Each message is filtered for inappropriate content and personally identifiable information is blocked. Safe Mode chat sessions are moderated by a staff member.

Toys, games and books can be purchased from this site. A user has the option to find a local Disney or Toys R Us store, also.
