Chess.com is a site for chess players of all skill levels to play, learn and interact with other players. Visitors to the site may play games against the site’s computer and view articles on the history of chess, game strategies, beginner’s guides, chess festivals and more. Mobile applications are also available.
The home page of the site offers links to ‘Play w/Friends’, ‘Learn Chess’, ‘Chess Videos’, ‘Chess Openings’, ‘Tournaments’ and ‘Mobile Chess’. Samplings of the current strategy articles, news articles and blog posts are displayed with ‘read more’ links. In play chess boards are displayed near the bottom of the home page under the headings of ‘Opening of the Day’, ‘Game of the Day’ and ‘Vote Chess’. ‘Vote Chess’ allows multiple players to ‘vote’ on moves and the move with the most votes is executed.
Basic membership is free and includes limited access to features such as; Chess.com TV, game analysis, the ‘Tactics Trainer’, and 259 MB of webmail. Premium accounts are available in three levels and start at $2.49 USD per month for a one year membership. Each account level allows more access to site features. ‘Diamond’ level members are provided with access to online mentoring, video lessons, unlimited access to all available features and 2GB of POP mail.
