Caring Bridge is a non-profit organization aimed at helping people with critical illnesses keep in touch with their friends and family. Much like a MySpace with a cause, Caring Bridge is used as a clearing house of information.
People with illnesses or who are in treatment or recovery are able to send messages to their loved ones by creating individual websites. They can give news (good or bad) on their health, their treatment, and their progress. In turn, their friends can visit their website and leave messages of encouragement, prayers, or just simple “hello’s”.
Since its inception in 1997, Caring Bridge has provided over 150,000 families with the opportunity to build free websites to communicate with others. Over 500 million people have visited these websites, and over 20 million have left messages of love.
Caring Bridge is in the process of acquiring partners to provide additional services to their users. By linking up with healthcare professionals, counselors, disease awareness partners, and other non-profits who help those in treatment, they hope to enable their users to better reach much needed resources.
Caring Bridge has an average of almost 2.5 million visitors on a monthly basis, 61% of who are female. Nearly all visitors (96%) are Caucasian, and two-thirds have no kids.
